Evander Law Leads His Brigade at Gaines’ Mill and Antietam, 1862 – Part II
At Gaines’ Mill, Va., on June 27, 1862, Col. Evander Law and his brigade, along with Brig. Gen. John Bell Hood’s brigade of Texans, swept the battlefield in front of them. Law, triumphant in victory, won his brigadier’s wreath. This is the second of a three-part series.In September 1860, Evander McIver Law, a young man with a passion for military education, moved from his native South Carolina to Tuskegee, Alabama, and started an academy to train soldiers.
