At Gaines’ Mill, Va., on June 27, 1862, Col. Evander Law and his brigade, along with Brig. Gen. John Bell Hood’s brigade of Texans, swept the battlefield in front of them. Law, triumphant in victory, won his brigadier’s wreath.
