The Poor Man’s Steak – 1930s Survival Recipe

Poor Man’s Steak in a jar. No fridge. No electricity. 2 years on the shelf. This 1930s Great Depression survival recipe kept families alive when store shelves were empty.

Here’s how to make it. I’ll show you every step — ground beef patties, bone broth, and the Amish water bath canning method that requires zero special equipment. And at the end I reveal the one critical step that prevents botulism. Skip it and the jar becomes poison.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 lb 2 oz ground beef
  • 2 medium white onions
  • 2 tsp salt Olive oil
  • Chicken bones for broth
  • 1 tsp white vinegar per jar Quart-sized mason jar

This recipe is for educational and preparedness purposes. Always follow proper canning safety guidelines!
